THE MACKAY STATUE

An open edition Epson Giclee reproduction of an original acrylic painting
on 100% archival Epson Velvet Fine Art paper.
Paper  8 1/2 ” x 11 ”
Image 7 ” x 9”

The Mackay Statue was created as a tribute to John William Mackay, famed mining entrepreneur and one of the Bonanza kings of the famous Virginia City Comstock lode.
When Mackay died in 1902 his family provided the funds to establish the Mackay School of Mines at the University of Nevada in his honor.
They also commissioned well known sculpture, Gutzon Borglum to create a life size statue of his likeness.
Both the Mackay School of Mines and the statue were dedicated June 10, 1908.
Borglum later earned world fame for his Mt. Rushmore memorial
To Presidents Washington, Lincoln, Jefferson, and Theodore Roosevelt
